Tóke

There are certain events that indicate that you’ve made an impact. Being invited on stage by Reggae-Star Gentleman to perform in front of 10.000 people at Uprising Festival (Slovakia) for instance. Or making it onto the front cover of Europe’s biggest Reggae Magazine “Riddim Magazine“, after being voted “National Newcomer of the Year“ three times in a row. All these milestones are testimonials to the waves that Berlin-based artist Tóke has made within the german reggae scene.

It was then only a matter of time until the international scene would take notice: In 2018 the Indonesian-German artist began collaborating with Major Lazer’s own Walshy Fire. Out came three songs: “Won’t Waste My Time”, “Blessed Morning“ and “Mountain Peak“ -an absolute accolade.

2021 turned out to be a turning point in Tóke’s career. Inspired by the journey thus far, the multiinstrumentalist began further exploring his own creativity, writing songs that truly do justice to his versatile musicality. Growing up in a musical household in Jakarta, Indonesia, he later became heavily inspired by Neo-Soul, RnB, Afrobeats, or Hip Hop. Anything that inspires Tóke can become part of a new song and it felt like it was time to concentrate on openness within the creative process, letting go of expectations from inside and outside.

The outcome of this process was “The Art Of Letting Go“ EP, which was released in May 2021. The project offers a sound that is truly fresh at its core, nurturing itself from traces of Neo Soul, RnB, Singer-Songwriter, never fully cut ties to his home that is Reggae. At the core of it all is Tóke’s touching, raspy voice, combined with his eclectic flow. A combination that has gained him a small yet loyal global fanbase.

After following up with an acoustic version of the project The Art Of Letting Go EP (Acoustic) in July, which represents a core aspect of Tóke’s artistry, the Indonesian-German artist went on to collaborate with talented Mutliinstrumentalist/Beatmaker FLKS.

This buttery, soulful project, comprised of elements from RnB, Neo-Soul, Rap was released on the label WE RUN THIS, run by producer “The Breed“. The legendary producer (Anderson Paak, Kanye West, etc.) describes the sound as “a mix of Kendrick Lamar, Anderson Paak, and Bob Marley.“
