A Colombian singer/songwriter and guitarist based in Montreal, Canada. He is defined by various critics as an atypical singer who transforms and refreshes the homogenized image of the current Latin American artist. Inspired by Afro-Beat, Salsa, Rock, and Afro-Colombian sounds.

His artistic and technical background include classical/electric guitar, vocal and percussion training. The artist’s professional career began at the early age of 5 while performing in Colombian folk groups representing his native country on multiple South American tours. Real world experience helped MATEO grow into the artist he is today.

Since arriving in Montreal at the age of 19, MATEO has successfully established himself in the local Canadian scene and is recognized as a prominent artistic figure of the “Latin New Wave” movement that is sweeping the country.

MATEO’s short career has already been filled with several accolades. The young artist was honored with the “Radio-Canada Artist Révélation” award in the World Music category in 2021 for his debut solo album Vengo de Frente. He subsequently obtained his first nomination at ADISQ in the category “Album of the Year” in World Music and also received the “Male Singer of the Year” award at the 2020 Canada Latin Awards. These honors have given him considerable visibility and credibility throughout the Canadian music and media markets. MATEO’s music is spreading like wildfire as it’s gaining more and more airplay on many major Canadian radio and television stations.

Quality music and MATEO’s disco-graphical work opened important doors which have led to features in many National TV shows, as well as the digital edition of the prestigious Montreal International Jazz Festival. He’s also performed in the International Nuits d’Afrique Festival where important collaborations were made with the famed Place des Arts and Quartier des Spectacles venues in Montreal.
